Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)
A training course for adults working or living with children or young people. It is particularly relevant for those who live or work with adolescents (ages 11 – 25) who are at risk of experiencing mental distress.
The course is for you if you’d like to understand more about mental health and how to help a young person in distress to get the professional help they need. It teaches people how to:
- recognise distress
- recognise the difference between Therapy and First Aid
- be confident in administering help in a First Aid situation
- provide comfort to a young person experiencing mental distress
- provide initial help and guide a young person towards appropriate support
- understand the importance of reducing the stigma of mental health problems
It focuses particularly on ways that young people show distress such as eating distress, self-harm, suicide and drug and alcohol misuse, as well as depression, anxiety disorders and psychosis.

What our learners say...
I thought the course this week was excellent and that both trainers were fantastic. They clearly knew their stuff very well ... One of the best courses I have been on (and I’ve been on quite a few!)
Thank you for such a brilliant two days
Best course I’ve been on. I learnt a lot of practical applications. Thanks a lot
