Volunteer

Flintshire Mind welcomes volunteers and would be keen to explore how you can put your skills and interests to good use to help local people experiencing mental distress. We also positively encourage and welcome people who have experienced mental distress themselves to become volunteers.

Flintshire Mind is working to develop a wide range of activities and groups in which volunteers can be involved. Currently volunteers are needed to train as befrienders and mentors for the Volunteering and Peer Mentoring Project and to help with the Saturday Drop-in and Out and About social groups. Opportunities to help out in the office are also available.

What will I be doing?

The exact activities you help with will depend on what is currently being planned and your own confidence, skills and interests. They could include:

  • Coming along to the drop-in - chatting to members, staff and volunteers and making sure that no-one is left out of the group
  • Training as a befriender or mentor to someone who is experiencing mental distress in order to provide one-to-one support for someone to take part in hobbies or attend community events
  • Organising or helping out with fundraising activities
  • Helping staff run activities
  • Representing Flintshire Mind at community events and fayres and handing out information packs
  • Helping out in the office
  • Going on social outings – for example for a meal, to the cinema or bowling
  • Organising and sending out information packs
